Edition 3: How to Find Funders:

  • Finding a funding source can seem daunting but the task is easier than one might think.  Now with the addition of the internet the world has really become a small place.
  • A great place to start is http://foundationcenter.org/.  This website has 10's of thousands of funders all in one place.
  • Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines are a great place for information but they will require more digging.
  • Remember to do your research and do not pay for anything up front.  Many times when looking for free money you will encounter not free solutions DO NOT USE THESE!
  • The information might not be right up front or on the first page dig for what you need.  BE PERSISTANT.  YOU CAN DO IT!
  • Try changing words or phrases around.
  • Note if the funding mentions 501 (c)(3) it is only for non-profits and not for individuals.
Here is an easy list of criteria
  1. Geographic Location
  2. Age
  3. Disability
  4. What AT you are looking for
  5. Income might matter
